“Charles Chinn, a founder Lighthouse member and former Plant Director for Sir Robert McAlpine helped countless apprentices. The Charles Chinn Award Scheme set up in his memory offers financial assistance with construction related studies to help the youth of today become the industry professionals of tomorrow.

We invited the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Institution of Civil Engineers, Royal Institution of British Architects and the Institute for Engineers of Ireland to submit deserving cases for consideration.

Emily Farmer a student architect in her final year at UCL has been successful. With Emily and her brother both studying architecture, the enormous cost of education was putting a

strain on the family. Emily is extremely committed, having already worked on designing social housing and office space in association with the Olympic Project.

This is a great opportunity to promote the Lighthouse Club to younger people and to encourage more women to enter the industry.

We wish Emily well and hope even more students will apply next year!”

The future of our industry lies with young people studying towards a career in construction; Steve McNicholas reports…

Thanks to

Mr McNicholas

Chairman of the Lighthouse Club, Steve Barnett reports “On behalf of all at the Lighthouse Club I would like to express our sincere thanks to Mr Kevin McNicholas as his 3-year term as President of the Club draws to a close.

As Non-Executive Chairman and former Chief Executive Officer of McNicholas Kevin brought with him a wealth of industry experience; his first duty was to welcome over 650 guests at our 52nd Annual Dinner and raise a toast to our fantastic organisation.

A staunch Lighthouse Club supporter, in his second year as President Kevin climbed North Africa’s highest mountain Mount Toubkal to help raise much needed funds.

I’m sure Kevin’s interest and support in the Club will be ongoing and I ask you to join me in wishing him every success with his future endeavours.
