Surface miner is biggest machine on stand

Wirtgen 4200 SM surface minerThe biggest Wirtgen machine on the company’s stand at Bauma 2010 will be its new 4200 SM surface miner. This impressive tracked machine weighs over 200 tonnes, is over 30.0m (98ft 5in) in length and can achieve a cutting performance of up to 3,000 tonnes per hour.

In 1980, Wirtgen GmbH built is first surface miner for the mining of minerals in opencast deposits in 1980. Now the company claims to be the market leader in this segment and Bauma will provide the world premiere for the 4200 SM – which has become the largest in its three-model range.

The 4200 SM is available in two different configurations for operations in either hard or soft rock. For applications in soft rock with unconfined compressive strengths of up to 50MPa, the 4200 SM is equipped with a 4.20m (13ft 9in) wide cutting drum unit with larger cutting diameter, thus permitting a cutting depth of up to 830mm (2ft 9in). Alternatively, it can be equipped with a drum assembly offering a cutting width of 4.20m (13ft 9in) and a cutting depth of 650mm (2ft 1in) for applications in hard rock with unconfined compressive strengths ranging from 30MPa to 80MPa.

Equipped with a 1,194kW (1623hp) 16-cylinder Cummins diesel engine, the 4200 SM has a two-stage conveyor system with 1.8m (5ft 11in) wide primary and discharge conveyors – the latter having alternative lengths of 12.0m (39ft 4in) or 16.0m (52ft 6in). The discharge conveyor has a slewing angle of 180°, flexible height adjustment and variable belt speed to facilitate the loading of large capacity mining trucks.

Super paver is Vogele flagship

Vogele Super 3000-2 paverVogele is using Bauma to highlight its new flagship Super 3000-2 paver. Powered by a 300kW (402hp) Deutz engine, this productive tracked machine can be fitted with a screed which provides a maximum paving width of 16.0m (52ft 6in).
Suitable for paving bituminous and non-bituminous mixes over large widths and in thick layers, the Super 3000-2 has a hopper with a capacity of 17 tonnes. The machine’s conveyor tunnel is 1.62m (5ft 4in) wide and 400mm (1ft 4in) high and its conveyors have separate hydraulic drives.

The Super 3000-2 is powered by a Deutz TCD 2105 V06 4V diesel engine with a maximum power output of 300kW (402hp). This can be operated in ‘ECO Mode’ to further reduce fuel consumption and noise levels.

The new Vogele flagship paver is equipped with the latest version of its maker’s ErgoPlus consoles for paver and screed operators. These consoles feature a particularly high-contrast display so that all information should be clearly legible on the display panel, even when subject to reflections from sunrays. Using his ErgoPlus console, the paver operator can select the four different operating modes of ‘Neutral’, ‘Job Site Mode’, ‘Positioning Mode’ and ‘Pave Mode’.
