Tendering Technology
Winning contracts with streamlined planning, tighter bids and lower construction costs - Page 4 of 4

Intuitve commands help quickly help produce 3D models and more Tools such as this facilitate rapid decision-making and allow contractors to quickly evaluate multiple scenarios to determine the best and most cost-effective course of action. Additionally, the selected models can be rapidly sent out to machines and positioning crews on-site to adjust the grading, staking or measuring operations.

New route planning, takeoff and positioning technology is showing striking results in their ability to reduce the time, money, and investment required in the planning and bidding process for contractors. Even more important are the cost-saving implications for construction and the operational costs savings realized in the finished rail, road, or mine operation.

Results

Focusing on greater collaboration upfront between stakeholders, Thiess was selected as the premier contractor for this initiative. Using planning and site positioning technology, Thiess produced a cleaner design and competitive bid and was awarded the project.

  • Viable and cost-effective alignment and design scenarios were evaluated and selected in hours instead of weeks
  • A stronger bid was produced that included changes to the concept design to yield the best results during the construction phase
  • Engineers shifted and shortened the alignment of two rail bridges by 100 meters
  • This alternative alignment condensed the size of the rail platform and reduced the amount of structural work required to build it
  • Thiess cut overall construction costs by 5 to 10 percent
