Liebherr find winning formula in tough global economic times - Page 3 of 3 >>>

cwmags: Liebherr wheel loaders and ADT

“Of the 2,700 wheel loaders we plan to sell from our product program in the current year, 958 are large machines, 636 are all-rounders, 688 Liebherr-brand stereo loaders and 418 stereo loaders as marketed by John Deere. We are also supplying 295 component sets for assembly in Brazil, China and Algeria.

The European Market

Liebherr told Contractors World that, according to CECE statistics, the Western Europe wheel loader market had a volume of 11,195 units in the first half of 2011, a 66.4 percent increase over the same period of the previous year. This was evidence that the stabilization phase following the economic crisis has continued, and that the market is approaching an average volume level if a number of years are compared.

Wheel loader sales in Eastern Europe developed much more dynamically, though at a much lower level in terms of the units sold. The total market there in the period reached 2,685 units, in other words more than three times as many machines were sold.

By comparison, in the USA, we have seen the total market grow in relation to the equivalent period of 2010 by 63.5 percent. Worldwide, sales in the first six months of 2011, excluding China, rose by 55.1 percent to 36,824 units.

cwmags: Liebherr total wheel loader salesLast year, the principal European markets for Liebherr wheel loaders were the Federal Republic of Germany with about 36 percent of total sales, followed by France with 11.7 percent, Austria with 5.4 percent and Switzerland with 2.8 percent.

In the first half of 2011, China sold about two-thirds of world wheel loader production, and is still reaching record-breaking figures. Martin Gschwend commented “We must also assume that a considerable volume is not recorded, since many Chinese manufacturers do not supply their sales statistics to the CECE. Our estimate, based on the analysis of CCMA-EM (China Construction Machinery Association – Earthmoving) sources, suggests that the wheel loader market in China for the whole of 2011 will have a volume of approximately 200,000 units. This is more than three times the total volume on all the remaining markets during this period, which is estimated by the CECE at about 65,000 units.”

2012 and beyond

“We began strongly in the first two quarters of the current year, and can now feel that the market has become slightly more relaxed. The investment backlog of recent years has been dispersed, and larger projects are largely complete. I am cautiously optimistic as far as 2012 is concerned, and expect the total market to grow moderately in the Western target areas that are relevant for us.

“The 2012 production program comprises 3,016 machines and 416 sets of parts; this is a 14.6 percent growth in volume compared with 2011. I am confident that we will succeed in selling these machines” said Martin Gschwend.
