Roger Lindley, Publisher/Editor Contractors World MagazinesEditorial Comment

"When I first started compiling editorial for this issue, I was unsure of what content was available or where the focus should be. Then news started to filter through on challenges following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

There then followed updates on the recover work that is slowly, but surely, taking place in Haiti, the capital city of which was all but destroyed in an earthquake in January 2010.

Although some of the information lacks the usual depth, it is interesting to see how companies work together and with Governments and aid organisations in providing solutions that go beyond simply reconstruction.

In Japan, the challenge there is to bring under control the nuclear reactors at Fukushima, which, uncontrolled could have global consequences.

In Haiti, it is also interesting to see how, even in times of emergency, there is still time to consider environmental and longer term humanity issues such as work skills training. It is reassuring to see that plant and equipment supplied is being put to good use and that this is being supplemented by time and personnel to provide training and other assistance.

Trade Shows In Abundance

Every year, editors face the annual ritual of visiting a number of trade shows. For some reason, they all seem to be scheduled for the first few months of the year. It is important to visit these events, but it leaves little time to review in-depth all the new products, innovations and developing trends.

I review some such items in this issue, but we are putting together another ‘At the Shows’ supplement - the last one having proved very popular. With the trade show ‘season’ now over, I can concentrate on writing the reviews.

Our associate publication - CP&E Contractors Plant & Equipment edited by Nick Johnson will also be giving detailed reviews.

Manage your registration

I appreciate the volume of emails people receive today, and the extent of the amount of junk. We do not want to send out unnecessary emails - we only send one as each issue or special supplement is published. Addresses are not used for any other purposes.

By completing the simple registration form you can let us know just what magazines are of interest. It improves the quality of our mailing list and also goes some way to reduce the amount of unwanted emails you receive.

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that the email address we use to mail you the magazine is in your address book or ‘white list’ to avoid it going in to your junk filter."
