Liebherr giant 400 tonne crane playing vital role

During the Summer, installaton of a Liebherr LR 11350 400-ton lifing capacity crawler crane was completed for the Russky Bridge. This crane will be used to lift large-size central span deck panels of the bridge to the Russky Island to the elevaton of 70 meters.

A special platform with reinforced foundation was constructed

The bridge is being built under a federal program of Vladivostok development as a center of international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. It will be a link between Vladivostok mainland and island areas to become an important part of primary regional transportaton system.

Bridge constructon started in September 2008 and it will be completed by the Asia-Pacifc Economic Cooperaton summit to be held in Vladivostok in 2012

Some 320 pieces of special equipment are used in constructon of the bridge , many introducing technology used for the frst tme Russia such as the Bauer BG40 reversible drilling rigs among the feet of over 20 drilling units.

Up to 280 track-mounted and tower cranes are in operation including a Liebherr LR 11350 400-ton lifting capacity crawler crane used to lif large-size central span deck panels to the elevaton of 70 meters.

Hitachi Sumitomo track-mounted crane to lower 30 m long rebar cages into casing pipes. Kroll tower cranes, which can be up to 340 m tall, are used for erectng the pylons. The bridge piers, M1 on the Nazimov peninsula and M12 on Russky island, are the heaviest and most complex structures. They are about 35 meters high and are used as the load transfer piers, taking up the horizontal load from the cable-stayed span stfening girder. The pier bodies are pierced with numerous ducts for accommodaton of utlity lines and for bridge monitoring system transmiters.

The contractors are using self-compactng concrete for erecting bridge pier and pylon grillage. Special additives were used in the concrete mix, which made concrete vibratng unnecessary and cut down concreting time. The self-compacting concrete mix improves s igni f i cant l y the qual i ty of reinforced concrete structures.

Geda express freight-passenger elevator with designed load capacity of up to two tons are used for access during construction of bridge piers and pylons. The elevator lifting speed is 65 m per minute and reaches the top platform of a 320-m high pylon in 3.5 minutes.

The pile footing for M7 pylon was built from the water, using a temporary steel islet. the man-made peninsula was rock-flled afer the bored piles and enclosing sheeting had been put in place. Drilling and pile concretng
