An easy life for bridge pylon workers
in Andalusia

During building the “La Pepa” bridge in southern Spain, a crane-operator lift from the lift manufacturer GEDA-Dechentreiter GmbH & Co.KG is being used for approx. 2 years.

In the Andalusia town of Cádiz, the “La Pepa” bridge is presently being built. Cádiz is located on a promontory and the new bridge will connect the town of Cádiz to Puerto Real on the Spanish mainland. The existing bridge, built in 1969, is no longer designed for the traffic of today – approx. 40,000 vehicles per day.

Comansa cranes are installed on the 180 m high bridge pylons and are fitted with GEDA-2 operator lifts. Therefore, the cable-stayed bridge “La Pepa” will bring enormous relief to the complete traffic situation in the region. In future, the town and port can be reached in less than half the time. With an overall length of more than 3 km, the “La Pepa” will be the longest bridge in Spain. The longest anchoring cable is 540 m and the pylons measure 180 m.

The length of the bridge is 1,180 m. The 1,183 m long eastern approach comprises 75 spans with a maximum length of 32 m. The western approach as span lengths from 55 to 150 m. The main bridge comprises 5 spans ranging from 120 m to 540 m. The deck is box girder construction. Total cost is Euro 299 million and is scheduled for completion in 2012.

Comansa cranes are installed on the 180 m high bridge pylons and are fitted with GEDA-2 operator lifts. Turbo Iber, has rented the rack and pinion lift to the construction company on-site. Structural engineering works are by ACL Estructuras and GINPROSA. Steel works are contracted to Dragados Offshore SA.

To the top, safe and quickly

The GEDA crane-operator lift is used to quickly transport the personnel to workplaces at greater heights.
