Country’s first Bobcat T870 compact tracked loader

Having taken delivery of the first Bobcat T870 compact tracked loader in Italy, the Salemme Giuseppe Company of Gerenzano in the Italian province of Varese, put the new machine to work straight away.

The company operates in road construction, urban development, excavation works and earthmoving, demolition and utility construction and they purchased the new T870 compact tracked loader from the Milan branch of the Bobcat dealer, DMO.

The first project for the new machine was at a site where the

foundations for the internal road system for a new residential development were being laid. Talking from the site, owner Giuseppe Salemme, explained the reasons for buying the machine: “Our business covers a variety of applicatons in which the versatlity of the equipment is a crucial factor. In additon to several types of larger machines, our feet already included a Bobcat S250 skid-steer loader, which has proved very useful in numerous applicatons. “In light of the type of work we carry out, we were looking for a machine that was not only easy to transport in terms of weight and size, but was also capable of operatng in situatons where greater power and tracton than that ofered by the S250 is required.

“This is a very important aspect of site clearance and excavaton work to remove undergrowth and other vegetaton for residental and commercial developments and partcularly those applicatons where the nature of the terrain makes the wheeled machine less efectve. Another highly important aspect that convinced us to buy this machine was the boom design on the T870, which allows the machine to load a truck with high spill guards without a problem. “

The T870 is powered by a 3.8 litre Kubota V3800 DI-TE3 four-cylinder turbo diesel engine supplying 74 kW (99 HP) at 2600 rpm (SAE JI995). It has an operatng weight of 5,751 kg and is equipped with 450 mm wide tracks The T870 can lif and transport loads weighing up to 1.5 tonne.

High lift challenge for Autaa Levage

An Autaa Levage contract to remove a 3.6 tonne phone connection shelter from the roof of a 90 m high building, on the outskirts of Paris had some unique challenges, including traffic management restrictions. Also, high winds, up to 7 m/s, and the structure of the building made the already challenging lif more difcult.

As Lionel Autaa, Director, Autaa Levage explains, “Despite our experience in a wide variety of demanding tasks, this job was partcularly challenging due to a combinaton of height, weight and the limitatons of a busy, tree-lined by-pass and ofces in the foreground of the building.”

To remove the 3.6 t shelter from the roof, a Terex AC 350 all terrain crane had to be rigged at an under hook height of 114.15 meters to clear the 90 m roofop. The confguraton enabled the crane to reach straight up with the required precision to lif the shelter and other elements to the ground smoothly and rapidly. The job was safely completed within two days.

Driven-in from the company’s Paris depot in the early morning, the Terex AC 350 was set-up with a luffing jib and sideways superlift configuration with 62 tonne counterweight using a 51.90 m main boom and 61 m extension at a radius of 30 m.
