Making safety a priority in tower crane applicationsMaking safety a priority in tower crane applications

A partnership was recently concluded between GIE Bouygues Construction Matériel and AGS the anticollision systems specialist for lifting machines. This agreement involves the supply of AGS anti-collision systems over several years to renew the current fleet of Bouygues Construction and will allow equipping all their tower cranes.

Besides the supply of anti-collision systems, AGS will insure the training of the GIE Bouygues Construction Matériel technicians, the installation of AGS equipment, the interventions on the French territory, as well as the development of these systems to adapt themselves to construction site and new crane generation.

One of these innovations already began: the goal is to avoid all the dismounting of anti-collision systems when cranes are erected and disassembled. This improvement will allow reducing hardness and will save a lot of time for the sites organization.

To accompany Bouygues Construction on various projects, AGS is based on its branch network and subsidiaries in France and abroad. Currently in France, Bouygues Construction and AGS are working together on several prestigious projects.

Tadano Mantis 15010, 77 ton telescopic boom crawler Telescopic Boom Crawler Crane Pile Driving in Quebec

A Tadano Mantis 15010, 77 ton telescopic boom crawler crane has recently been rented by Icanda Corporation based in Laval, Quebec from Cropac Equipment, the dealer in Quebec and Ontario, along with 24 m (78 ft) of Bermingham Foundation Solutions L-15 vertical travel leads, a Bermingham B-21 Diesel Hammer and an HHH-12 hydraulic spotter.

The initial job where Icanda is using the crane and pile driving system consists of driving 355 mm (14”) pipe piles for a bridge foundation in Saint Méthode, Quebec. The piles will be driven inside of coffer dams below grade at 3:1 fore batters set by the hydraulic spotter, so no template is needed for the piling job.

The unique ability to quickly adjust both the telescopic boom and spotter length has enabled Icanda to perform the piling job with less excavation at the worksite because the boom can be retracted and spotter extended to achieve the 3:1 fore-batter for driving piles; then the boom can be extended and spotter raised and retracted to achieve a reverse batter (thus consuming less space) while loading piles into the lead system.

The Mantis 15010 was identified as an ideal piling crane because of the heavy-duty construction of the crawler crane coupled with the flexibility of the telescopic boom; the integrated lead and hammer controls offered as a standard option on the crane; and the self-erecting capabilities of the crane and pile driving system.

The pile driving lead interface option on the crane includes an integrated control console, spotter lugs, hydraulic valving and quick coupler panel. The system offers control functions for lead and spotter winches and cylinders to adjust batter and lead vertical travel, pile gate open and close, and hydraulic hammer starter and throttle controls.
