Editoral Comment It will soon be time for It is amazing how quickly the triennial Bauma event comes round and it is fast approaching. Stand builders are already busy on site putting up the larger structures and manufacturing facilities around the world are putting the finishing touches to ‘show-finished’ machines designated for putting on the stand. Every blemish, every speck of dust and every attachment will be inspected to ensure that it is as it should be - in perfect condition. As the machines on show are designed as highly productive work horses, once in the hands of the customers the durability of the finish will be put to the test. Buckets, track and wheel being the first to show their true metal. This is the first supplement of 6 that Contractors World is going to publish as we preview equipment to be shown and, after the event review the surprise items that were kept under wraps - and there will be many. Readers need to consider that some of the ‘new’ machines may already have been exhibited at bauma China, bauma India, World of Concrete or another regional event. Manufacturers get round this by saying ‘for the first time at Bauma’. However, although Bauma is the global launch - being the most important event for the industry, customers need to appreciate that it will take time for the new models to filter through the network and, because of different regulations, not every machine will be available in all markets. For those equipment buyers looking for a bargain, now is the time to talk to dealers about the current model - soon to be replaced. Dealers are under pressure to clear existing stock and so are always open to negotiations. Test your skills. A caveat to that is, if you are looking for machines to work longer, hard and with lower fuel and maintenance costs, then the very latest machines will invariably deliver all. So the higher price can soon be offset by savings in cost of ownership. Enjoy the read. Use the convenient ‘more information’ buttons to get the very latest. We will be at the event.
