Another Year Is

Coming to the

End

It seems like only yesterday that I was commenting on what 2015 was

going to bring in the way of economic recovery, technological devel-

opment, new plant and equipment. Now it is time to start planning

for 2016.

I believe in looking forward but carrying the lessons learnt from

the past. I still hear people talking about the ‘good old days when

manufacturers could not meet demand’ and they were good days but

many companies fell into the trap of thinking that it was going to con-

tinue and then the markets hit the wall.

Economists were forecasting a gradual slow down but no one said

that the world economies were going to hit the wall. As markets slow-

ly recover, companies have obviously learnt the unpredictable nature

of markets around the world. They are much more cautious in their

investment plans although most are maintaining a huge investment in

R&D for future machines.

Next year is when Bauma comes to Europe and it will be interesting

to see what comes in the way of new equipment. It is the première

show for most companies who use it to make major announcements.

That is the reason why Contractors World will feature previews of

what’s new and a comprehensive review after the event.

Hanging Up The Hard Hat.

After 35 years of writing for the construction industry, it is time to

hang up the hard hat - not for good, as I still hope to be making some

contribution to the industry.

So,

Contractors World magazines

are up for sale. It has been an

interesting 5 years pioneering the transfer from print to digital and

with over 100,000 registered readers, I think that I can say the mission

was accomplished. The foundations have been built. Now it is time

for someone else to develop the structure.

Interested publishing companies or entrepreneurs should

email

me

their interest first.
