Lighting up

History at Stirling

Bridge

Although one of Scotland’s most historic

landmarks, most passers-by are in the dark

about the importance of Stirling Bridge on

the outskirts of Stirling. This could be set

to change thanks to a unique partnership

between The Guardians of Scotland Trust

(GOST), a Stirling-based charity working to

enhance the area around the site of the

Battle of Stirling Bridge and the

FES Group.

Dusk fell recently as representatives from The FES

Group began a series of tests on new lighting designs at

Old Stirling Bridge.

GOST project manager Kathleen O’Neill said:

“FES has generously offered to support the Trust

with support in-kind with lighting requirements

and recently stakeholders from the Trust, Stirling

Council and Historic Environment Scotland met

at the site to see what FES would propose for

new lighting designs for Stirling Bridge.”

“The key to the designs is modernisation

and GOST is considering lighting possibilities

with Historic Environment Scotland. The main

aim here is to enhance this world famous site as

a visitor attraction.”

GOST chair, Councillor Fergus Wood said:

“This very generous offer by FES will allow us to

light the Old Bridge. It will greatly enhance the

existing Stirling illuminations at the Castle and

the Wallace Monument.”

Duncan Fletcher, Managing Director of the FES Group

said

“This is an exciting opportunity for FES to

participate in the project and support GOST in

promoting the history of this hugely significant

part of Stirling.”

“This project will not only serve as a reminder

of Stirling’s rich heritage to the local residents,

but also enhance the City as a top tourist

destination.”

The Trust aims to enhance the site at Stirling Bridge

by funding the creation of a commemorative artwork

and to establish an education programme about Andrew

de Moray and William Wallace.
