What's New In Plant & Equipment

New Liebherr R 920 Compact Excavator Available Worldwide

Liebherr R 920 Compact brochureNew Liebherr R 920 Compact Excavator Available Worldwide

The new R920 Compact Litronic crawler excavator, showcased at Bauma 2016, is now available worldwide. The compact model which is a variation of the R920 Litronic has been designed especially for use on restricted construction sites or in inner city areas.

The new Liebherr R 920 Compact crawler excavator with an operating weight between 19 and 21 tonnes is powered by a 100 kW / 136 HP engine and complies with the requirements of exhaust emissions Stage IV / Tier 4f. Slightly less than the standard model which has a rating of 105 kW/143 HP.

The compact variation combines the properties of a standard crawler excavator, such as high performance and versatility, with the advantages of a compact machine. With a short tail swing of only 1,850 mm compared to 2,515, it can be work effectively on construction sites where space is limited.

Swing speed is a little lower at 0 to 10 RPM stepless against 0-12 RPM. And swing torque on the compact is 50 kNm compared to 51 kNm. However, there is little difference in travel speed.

An offset for the more compact design is in the working envelop which is marginally compromised. The maximum digging depth is 5.80 m v 6.60 m. Maximum reach at ground level is 8.95 m v 9.85 m and maximum dump height is 6.80 m v 6.55.

The significantly safety benefits in such compact machines more than compensate for the slight compromise on performance, especially when working in restricted areas such as alongside live traffic flows. Being compact, it is also easier to transport.

The customer can choose from four undercarriage combinations with a bulldozer blade also available. Rubber track pads are also available as an option for urban operation sites. With this variety of equipment, it covers a broad range of applications and is adaptable to better meet specific customer requirements.

The new R 920 Compact crawler excavator has easy-to-access maintenance points with an innovative maintenance concept. For example, engine oil levels can be comfortably read from the ground.

Comfort and safety

The cab gives the operator an ergonomic and spacious work area. The standard air-suspension driver’s seat, automatic air-conditioning and the high-resolution 7” colour touch screen offer maximum comfort. The fully retractable windscreen and the rear-view camera, integrated in the counterweight, ensure optimal visibility of the entire working area.

An optional lateral camera can be installed for enhanced safety.

The ROPS certified cab structure protects the driver in the event of tipping and guarantees maximum safety. An emergency exit above the rear window is available for every excavator configuration.
