Pipe bursting in Trondheim

replace the pipeline lying at a 3 m depth using the trenchless method instead of open trenching. A technique familiar to the city.In Trondheim, Norway’s third largest City, a 600 mm drinking water pipeline made of cast iron had to be renewed over a total length of 900 m. The pipeline, originally installed in the late 60s, showed definite signs of wear. Leaks caused by corrosion, requiring elaborate repairs, were frequently reoccurring.

To ensure the water supply the decision was made to renew the 40 year old pipeline. However, in doing so it was essential to maintain the pipe’s cross section. Due to the corrosive soil conditions a HD-PE pipe OD 710 x 52.2 mm (with coating) was chosen as the new pipe.
